You know, I totally forgot Sydney's gay and lesbian Mardi Gras was on this weekend until reading D.U.P. and R*yan's blogs a few minutes ago. What kind of gay man am I?
One who doesn't really give a stuff about Mardi Gras I guess. The shirtless muscle men and body fascists, the e-suffused dance party crowd, the music - none of it hold any interest for me whatsoever.
Instead, I've had a pleasent weekend doing very little, save for catching a screening of The Illusionist (so expository and staged that I walked out), having birthday drinks with Mr Monster and his friends, seeing Arthur Miller's All My Sons at the Arts Centre, and attending two parties, a gay leather-friend's soiree in Preston, and a cult-themed party in North Carlton thrown by Born Dancin'. I've also managed to squeeze in an exhibition opening, a couple of glasses of absinthe, and a trek to the laundrette along the way.
So how was your weekend?

Naughty homosexuals like you Richard need to be punished. Do you hear me!
I live in Sydney and I didn't go. The crowds are too much for me and it has lost its edge. I'll never forget the outfits made and worn by Ron Muncaster. Total classics. "Father time" is the only one I can recall but there was always a collective gasp from the crowd as Ron walked by.
Punished? Oh dear - I'd prefer to be sent to my room without supper, please, denys, over a spanking any day. Depending on who's administering the spanking, of course...
you, dear richard are DIVERSITY IN THE GAY COMMUNITY.
This is an excellent thing. Not all "gays" are shirts off pretty boys just as not all lesbians are dykes (on bikes).
You are who you are and that is smart and lovely.
end of discussion.
There is nothing innately wrong with being a shirtless muscle man. Allow people freedoms to be who they are.The gay community is broad and all are included. Mardi Gras is a human rights march, we have the right to march up oxford street,in all shapes and sizes,(and we do) whoever we are.
